In the context of varying interpretations of knowledge states and the mechanisms of knowledge creation, this paper adopts a socio-cognitive view of information and knowledge and suggests a different approach to knowledge creation by conceptualizing knowledge on a continuum of dormat and active knowledge. A higher amount of active knowledge and lower amount of dormat knowledge is considered as a desirable state for organizational survival and growth.
