The industrial disputes act 1947 marks the culmination of a series of welfare legislation spanning from Bengal Regulations of 1819 to the present act. Even though the objective of the act is to ameliorate the plight of the disputants, it is said that the Act shows an overwhelming bias towards the workmen. However, the professed intent is to provide for investigation and settlement of industrial disputes in order to maintain harmony and peace in the industrial environment.
