During the last two decades the term social reponsibility has become very popular in India. Indian corporates, government and NGOs have initiated many programmes for the development of society, hence need to audit this activity. Social audit is proposed as a supplement to conventional audit to help government departments, public agencies and NGOs, etc. understand and improve their performance as perceived by the stakeholders. Social audit is a process by which an organisation accounts forits social performance to its stakeholders and seeks to improve it in future.
